Meet the Chef
Chef Shandra is a New York–based Indonesian chef celebrated for bringing the rich flavors, traditions, and stories of Indonesian cuisine to the forefront of the culinary world. Through authentic recipes, cultural storytelling, and immersive dining experiences, she introduces audiences to the depth, warmth, and diversity of Indonesian food and hospitality.

Culinary & Community Impact
Beyond the kitchen, Chef Shandra uses food as a platform for cultural connection, community impact, and empowerment. She is an activist, advocate, and entrepreneur dedicated to supporting survivors and building community through food, education, and opportunity.
Mentari Non-Profit: She leads Mentari (www.mentariusa.org), a nonprofit organization that supports survivors of trafficking and exploitation through advocacy, education, and workforce development programs.
The League of Kitchens: Chef Shandra was a cooking instructor with the League of Kitchens and a contributor to their acclaimed cookbook.
James Beard Foundation: She has proudly hosted culinary demonstrations and dining experiences at the prestigious James Beard Foundation.

This is not only a cookbook; it is a testimony to the power of the human spirit. Since 2014, Shandra Woworuntu, Founder of the Mentari Human Trafficking Survivor Empowerment Program, has drawn inspiration and purpose from the art of cooking and baking. For years, the Mentari Culinary Arts Program has provided a gateway to self-sufficiency and a path to reintegration for newly-exited survivors of all forms of human trafficking.
